Dr Firoz Alam is a Professor and Program Director in the School of Aerospace, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. He earned his PhD in vehicle aerodynamics from the same university in 2000. He completed his Master’s degree (combined with Bachelors) in Aeronautical Engineering with Honours (First Class First) from Riga Civil Aviation Engineers Institute, Latvia. He secured 4th position in the combined merit list in the HSC examination from the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Jessore in 1983. Prof Alam has received numerous awards (including RMIT University Teaching Award 2004 for outstanding teaching & learning), certificates and scholarships throughout his student and work life. Prof Alam is a leading expert in aircraft, road vehicle, train, building and sports aerodynamics, conventional and renewable energy, energy policy, energy security, engineering education curriculum design, quality assurance and accreditation. He has over 250 publications (including scholarly books, book chapters, journal articles and peer reviewed conference papers). He provided industrial consultation to Ford Motor Company Australia, General Motors Holden, SCT Logistics, FreightLink, Queensland Rail, Breeze Air and Rosebank Australia. Prof Alam is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers Australia and active members of several other professional societies and associations (Society of Automotive Engineers USA & Australasia, Royal Society of Victoria, American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, International Sports Engineering Association, International Society of Bionic Engineering, Australasian Fluid Mechanics Society). Prof Firoz Alam is a naturalised Australian Citizen. Prof Firoz Alam is currently leading one of the world’s renowned Sports Aerodynamics Research Group in Australia.
