Filipa S. Reis (FSR) has a Degree in Biotechnological Engineering (2008) and a Master degree in Biotechnology (2010), both from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB, Portugal). She holds a PhD in Pharmacy, with European mention and the highest honours, awarded the "extraordinary doctoral prize" from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM). This project was developed with a PhD grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT, Portugal; SFRH/BD/111753/2015). During this period, she worked on the Department of Nutrición y Ciencia de los Alimentos (UCM), and she was also a member of the BioChemCore group from the Mountain Research Center (CIMO-IPB, Portugal) and the Cancer Drug Resistance group of IPATIMUP/i3S (Institute of Molecular Pathology and Immunology of the University of Porto/Institute for Research and Innovation in Health Sciences, University of Porto, Portugal). The developed work was focused on the Functional Foods and Nutraceuticals area. Currently, she is a Junior Researcher at CIMO-IPB, through the institutional scientific employment program contract from FCT, Portugal (2021.03728.CEECIND). During the last few years, FSR has been developing work in the area of natural products, particularly in the: i) valorization of natural mountain resources as functional foods and a source of nutraceutical ingredients; ii) development of protocols for the identification and extraction of bioactive compounds from natural matrices and bio-based residues; iii) development of protocols to evaluate the bioactive properties of natural compounds, namely their antitumor potential, trying to disclosure the mechanism of action; and iv) development of natural and bio-based ingredients to replace the synthetic counterparts widely used as additives in food formulations. Some of this work has been developed within the scope of mobilizing projects, which made it possible to collaborate not only with several Universities and Research Institutes but also in close cooperation with the industry. In fact, among the outputs of the last five years, a patent resulting from this type of collaboration can be highlighted, proving the scientific, environmental, and social impact of her work. As a researcher, FSR interacted with 116 collaborator(s) co-authorship of scientific works, and she is taking firm steps towards leadership and an autonomous career. FSR participates(d) in different R&D projects and the supervision of PhD (2 ongoing), MSc (3), and BSc students (1). She has published 38 indexed papers, 4 international book chapters, 1 editorial, 9 publications in proceedings of scientific meetings, and several oral communications and panel communications in scientific meetings. These outputs were published in high Impact Factor (IF) SCI-journals, 95% belonging to the Q1 in the Food Science and related areas. Currently, FSR is an Editorial Board Member of BioMed Research International (section Biochemistry, Hindawi) and Frontiers in Nutrition (section Food Chemistry), and Guest Editor of 3 Special Issues (Applied Sciences, Processes, and Separations, MDPI). As a member of CIMO's projects team, FRS is responsible for writing/submitting projects to attain national/European funding (i.e. PRIMA, Aga Khan, FCT) and supports the management of funded projects (FCT, FEDER, Horizon 2020, etc.). All the scientific activities are developed simultaneously with teaching activities since she has been teaching, for the last three years, classes of Biology, Cell Biology and Biochemistry at the School of Health and School of Agriculture from the IPB. According to Scopus, FSR has an h-index of 20, with 40 publications and a total of 1736 citations (28/03/2023).
