My research focuses on immuno-metabolic determinants of health and disease; it combines culture-dependent and -independent sequencing techniques with an arsenal of in vivo and in vitro methods of metabolic phenotyping to unveil tissue-compartmentalized responses that mediate host-microbiome interactions modifying host metabolism. This approach allows the discovery of bacterial targets (probiotics), and molecules derived from these targets (postbiotics), with potential therapeutic application against obesity and type 2 diabetes. My laboratory has a particular interest in understanding how gut microbes can change nutrient absorption and how fragments of microorganisms present in the diet (ie, dietary postbiotics) can impact metabolic health.
