Felipe Gil Castiñeira is an associate professor (Profesor Titular) with the Department of Telematics Engineering University of Vigo. He is also a researcher at the atlanTTic research center for Telecommunication Technologies (University of Vigo). His research interests include wireless communication technologies and core network technologies, multimedia communications, embedded systems, ubiquitous computing, and the Internet of Things. His research activity is demonstrated by the quantity and quality of his scientific publications, and especially in the participation in European, national and regional research projects. It is noteworthy his participation as Principal Investigator in European projects (for example NextPerception, funded by ECSEL JU 2019, the FIWARE project of the 7th Framework Programme, the FastFlow5G project within the H2020 ORCA project, or the DYNAMO project, another experiment within Fed4Fire+), technology transfer projects (such as UBISMART, financed with almost 0.5 M Euro), and educational projects (IREEDER Erasmus+ project). He has been Principal Investigator in 18 projects funded through public competitive calls (16 since 2010, for a total of > 2 M Euro). He has published 37 articles in journals indexed in the JCR (23 since 2010: 10 Q1, 8 Q2, 2 Q3, 3 Q4), many with very high impact indices and positions in their corresponding categories (such as IEEE Trans. on Industrial Electronics, ranked second among two hundred journals, and IEEE Computer). The dissemination of his work also includes a book and several book chapters and the participation in 43 publications in leading conferences (Globecom, PIMRC, VTC, Mobile HCI, etc.) (20 since 2010). According to Google Scholar his H-index is 17, and according to the Web of Science (WoS), 9. Regarding technological transfer, he has directed R&D transfer projects under industry contracts with Spanish and international companies aimed at finding cutting-edge technological solutions (Nokia, Telefonica, Orange, Indra, Cellnex, Optare Solutions, etc.). He has been the Principal Investigator in 26 R&D contracts with companies since 2010, worth > 500 K Euro. Many of these solutions have been transferred to the companies and are being used in their products and applications. He has co-founded two spin-offs, Infinbox S.L. and Ancora Mobile S.L. He has experience in management, as leading researcher in numerous projects and as Head of Intelligent Networked Systems at Centro Tecnolóxico de Telecomunicación de Galicia, Gradiant, where he directed a group of more than 20 researchers in the accomplishment of more than fifty projects. The quality of his research and transfer activities has been recognized with two "sexenios de investigación" (6-year research terms) and one "sexenio de transferencia" (6-year transfer excellence terms). Several research stays have allowed him contacting different international groups such as Nokia Research Center (Palo Alto, USA), a leading research center of this leading company in mobile technology. He has supervised three doctoral theses and is supervising six more. He has also supervised over 70 bachelor and master’s thesis. He holds one Spanish patent and one USPTO patent on networking technologies.
