Ahmad Fahim

Dr. Ahmad is a Virologist within the Drug Discovery Division of Southern Research. He joined SR in August 2014. His long-term research interest is in emerging viruses with specific emphasis on understanding the molecular basis of viral pathogenesis, identification of drug targets, and discovery of antivirals. Over the last 10 years, he has worked with various emerging viruses including members of Filoviridae, Retroviridae and Orthomyxoviridae families. His on-going research at SR involves discovery of new drugs that target Influenza A virus polymerase complex. Dr. Ahmad received his Ph.D in Molecular Genetics from the University of Bundelkhand, India in 2008. He completed in August 2012 a NIAID-funded post-doctoral fellowship in emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases at Texas Tech University studying the pathogenesis of HIV. In September 2012, he was appointed as a Research Scientist in the Department of Biological Sciences at University of Texas at El Paso. Dr. Ahmad has expertise in the areas of Virology, Biochemistry and Cell Biology. He also has extensive hands-on and supervisory experience in BSL-2 and BSL-3 laboratories. He is a full member of the International Society for Antiviral Research, In addition Dr. Ahmad serving as a reviewer for several high impact journal and he is appointed as editorial board member in couple of scientific journals.
