I am an infectious diseases specialist and an expert in HIV perinatal medicine who has a long-term experience with HIV-infected patients and prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV. I am a consultant of the Consulting Committee for Antiretroviral Therapy in HIV-infected Pregnant Women of the STD/AIDS National Program of the Brazilian Ministry of Health. I am a member of the IMPAACT HIV Prevention Scientific Committee. I am the Co-Chair of Protocol P1081. I am the head of the HIV perinatal program for Hospital Federal dos Servidores do Estado, a federal reference center for PMTCT in Rio de Janeiro, one of the most important centers of PMTCT in Brazil. Me and my team of investigators have a number of publications in the field, including several collaborative studies with researchers from UCLA, NICHD, Fundação Oswaldo Cruz – FIOCRUZ in Rio de Janeiro, and Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. I am a reviewer of several scientific/medical journals. I was the Principal Investigator in Brazil of a collaborative study with UCLA entitled "Rapid Identification of HIV and Perinatal Intervention in Brazil", which was funded by the NIH. Since 1999, I have been involved in the following NIH-sponsored projects – PACTG 316, PACTG 247, HPTN 040/ PACTG 1043, ATN 024i, A5190, ATN 052, HPTN 057, TBTC 26, NISDI/NICHD Observational Studies (LILAC and PLACES), HPTN 052 and SMART/CPCRA network, Study 06.27.INF (sponsored by Nestlé Nutrition) and TMC-114 and TMC-239 (Janssen-Cilag). My site is presently conducting the following IMPAACT-network studies: P1066, P1026s, 1077HS, P1083 and will be soon enrolling participants into A5279 and P1081. I am a member of the organizing committee of HIV Brazil Johns Hopkins Conference. I am the site leader for the HFSE site and his level of effort is 100% focused on clinical research. I participate of the ZIKV IPD consortium: a global initiative to understand differences in the risk and severity of congenital ZIKA syndrome. The Consortium has been approved by WHO IRB.
