Bio
Elmano Margato was born in Pombal, Portugal, on December 22, 1955. He received the B.S. degree from the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, Lisbon, Portugal, in 1980 and the Dipl.Ing., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from the Instituto Superior Técnico, Technical University of Lisbon, Lisbon, in 1983, 1987, and 1996, respectively, all in electrical engineering.
In 1980, he joined the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa, where he was an Assistant Professor from 1984 to 1998 and has been a Coordinator Professor since 1998. He has been in charge with the Power Electronic Group of the Electrical Engineering and Automation Department, and he has taught Electrical Machines and Electrical Drives. He is also a Researcher with the Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores, Investigação e Desenvolvimento (INESC-ID), Lisbon. His research interests include electrical machine modeling, variable speed drives, variable speed generator systems, and static power conversion.
Dr. Margato is currently the President of the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa.
