Esmeralda Capristo

Prof. E. Capristo graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the Catholic University in Rome, on 1994; Specialty in Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases and Post-Doc Fellowship in Physiopathology of Nutrition and Metabolism. At present she works as Associaye Professor in Nutritional Sciences at the Catholic University, Fondazione Policlinico Universitario A. Gemelli IRCCS of Rome, Italy. She is author and co-author of more that 150 papers published on international Journals with pubmed citation. She attended the "Weight Control Unit" of the Columbia University, New York, directed by Prof. Steven B. Heymsfield. She is member of several scientific Societies, such as the Italian Society of Gastroenterology (SIGE), the Italian Society of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition (SINPE), the European Society of Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition (ESPEN), the American Society for Clinical Nutrition (ASCN); she is Fellow of the European Chapter of the American College of Nutrition. Her main fields of interest involve: nutritional status and energy requirements evaluation using indirect calorimetry (ventilated hood systems and calorimetric chamber) and body composition assessment (multi-frequence bioimpedance analysis, dual X-ray absorptiometry, isotopic dilution, etc.) in patients affected by malnutrition, intestinal malabsorption (i.e. inflammatory bowel disease, short-bowel syndrome, celiac disease), liver insufficiency, binge eating disorders and alcohol addiction. She also performs pharmacokinetics studies of the main energy substrates, (glucose, medium-chain faty acidsand dycarboxylic acids); she evaluates insulin-sensitivity by means of euglycaemic hyperinsulinemic clamp and the study of the main mediators involved in the regulation of body weight and energy intake.
