RESEARCH INTERESTS & PROJECTS
Dr. Tannant’s research investigates rock mechanics, geotechnical engineering, and engineering geology with emphasis on applied research associated with surface and underground excavations in rock for civil and mining applications, geohazard identification and analysis, rock support design, and geotechnical engineering of earth dams. He works on research projects with strong applied engineering components. Dr. Tannant is currently using photogrammetry as a field measuring and mapping tool, more recently using UAVs to take photos.
Dr. Tannant works on techniques to support and stabilize excavations (surface or underground), rock slope stability assessment, and aspects related to dam safety. Application of the principles of engineering geology, geohazard identification, geomechanics, and blasting is often required in the research.
