Bennion Douglas M

Studying physiology and medicine as an MD-PhD student at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL, has been the fulfillment of a dream for me. Each day of work and study is one that I look forward to and enjoy. I found this same sense of fulfillment during my undergraduate education at Brigham Young University in Provo, UT, where I worked as an undergraduate research assistant in a lab studying brain mechanisms of learning and memory. I took a hiatus from my studies at BYU to serve a church service and proselyting mission in Alaska, where I worked and lived with Hmong refugee families for the majority of my two years of service. In preparation for these experiences, I feel especially fortunate to have been taught and mentored by incredible high school teachers at Flower Mound High School in Flower Mound, TX. Above all else, my role as a husband and father defines who I am. I married the love of my life as a Junior at BYU, and we now have two wonderful children who bring meaning and joy into every aspect of my life. I am sometimes asked how I am able to pursue combined graduate degrees while being the father of a young and growing family. The answer is that because my wife and I are a team with common goals and faith in God, together we are able to accomplish the various tasks that are bringing success and happiness into our lives. We are living our dream.
