Dolores Pérez

Dolores Pérez Meirás was born in Ferrol (A Coruña). She graduated (with honors) in Chemistry at the University of Santiago de Compostela, where she also did her graduate studies under the guidance of Profs. Enrique Guitián and Luis Castedo, working in the synthesis of antitumour alcaloids. After obtaining the PhD in 1991, she did a two years (1992-1993) postdoctoral stay as a Fullbright fellow at the University of California at Berkeley in the group of Prof. K. Peter C. Vollhardt, where she became interested in the field of organometallic chemistry applied to organic synthesis. She completed her formation in this field with an stay in the group of Prof. Stephen L. Buchwald at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1996) as visiting scientist. In 1995 she joined the faculty of University of Santiago de Compostela as Assistant Professor, then as Associate Professor and since 2019, as Full Professor of Organic Chemistry. Her main research interests involve the discovery of new metal-catalyzed reactions of synthetic interest, the chemistry of arynes and, in particular, its application to the synthesis of nanographenes and other complex polycyclic aromatic systems of interest in the field of materials science. In addition to her reseach and teaching activities, Prof. Dolores Pérez was Director of the Department of Organic Chemistry (2004-2006), Coordinator of Support to R&D Units at USC (2006-2011), Commissioner Director (2010-2014) and Deputy Director (2014- ) of the Center for Research in Biological Chemistry and Molecular Materials (CIQUS), at the University of Santiago de Compostela.
