Delayehu Bekele studied medicine at Gondar college of Medical Sciences and worked as a general practitioner for two years at Debub University. He did his post graduate specialty in obstetrics and Gynecology at Addis Ababa University. He has also an additional master’s degree in public health from the University of Gondar. He did his subspeciality in Maternal and Fetal Medicine at St. Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC). He has worked as an assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at Hawassa University where he served as the chair of the department of Ob-Gyn and the head of the school of medicine. He is currently working as a professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Maternal Fetal Medicine at SPHMMC. He provides clinical service at SPHMMC, teaches undergraduate medical students and Ob-Gyn residentsand involved in several research projects. He has several publications and was awarded the best researcher award by the college in 2015. He has served as the president of the Ethiopian Society of Obstetrician and Gynecologists (2018 -2019) and is an editor in chief for the Ethiopian Journal of Reproductive Health. He is also a member of the national ethics review committee of Ethiopia.
