He was an associate editor of Journal of VLSI Signal Processing Systems for Signal, Image, and Video Technology and IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing. He was chair of the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) Technical Committee on Machine Learning for Signal Processing (2007–2009), general chair of the IEEE Workshop on Neural Networks for Signal Processing (2001), and program chair of the IEEE Workshop on Machine Learning for Signal Processing (2005), and he serves on the IEEE SPS Conference Board. He received the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 1996. He is a Senior Member of IEEE.
