个人简介
Agricultural scientist and lecturer with many years of experience in research on animal nutrition and physiology. I am passionate about science in general and am particularly interested in the mechanisms behind nutritional and anti-nutritional effects in animal organisms. Current projects target metabolism of essential trace elements across species, trypsin inhibitors in swine and poultry feed, microplastics in the feed chain and health-modulating feed additives across species.
I have worked with a wide range of animal species including swine, poultry, cattle, goats, sheep, wild and laboratory animal models.
Applied laboratory methods in previous and current projects include a wide range of assays for analysis of nutrients and antinutrients and the physiological response at the level of quantitative metabolism down to the subcellular level, including state-of-the-art OMICS platforms (transcriptomics, metagenomics, metagenomics/proteomics) .
However, I believe in solid phenotyping of animals before an in-depth assessment of physiological processes makes any sense, which is why special attention is given to the collection of high-resolution quantitative metabolic data on an animal-individual basis.
I lecture on nutrition and nutrition physiology of cattle, swine, poultry and laboratory animals and am particularly proud to have implemented new teaching modules on experimental modeling and laboratory animal science, within the curricula of my former and current academic employers. These were in part supported by a competitive teaching grant.
I see it as my most important and most rewarding task to participate in the training of young scientists. I believe the best way to do this is to teach by example; therefore, I try to pass on my passion for academic research to my students.
