Head of Culture Psychiatry Division and lecturer in Psychiatry Department, Faculty of Medicine, Udayana University, Bali since 2003. He also chairman of Cultural Psychiatry Section of Indonesian Psychiatric Association. He has been involved in a community mental health outreach project since 2007 with The Suryani Institute for Mental Health to make assessment of psychopathology and the diagnosis of mental and behavioural disorders. He and Professor Luh Ketut Suryani have pioneered a community-based, affordable mental health treatment for the mentally ill, particularly for those who have been chained, confined, or jailed for multiple years. He has been conducting collaborative studies with universities, such as: The University of Edinburgh, UK, The University of Sydney, Australia, The University of California (Davis), US, The University of Melbourne, Australia, The University of Vermont, US, The University of Kiel, Germany, He was fellow of Postgraduate Overseas Specialists Training (POST) from University of Melbourne, Australia in 2010. He is also an alumni of International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP) 2021 by the U.S. Department of State’s premier professional exchange program.
