C. Mendes De Oliveira

C. Mendes de Oliveira was granted a Physics B.Sc. degree by the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais in 1985 and M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Astronomy by the University of British Columbia in 1988 and 1992 respectively. She did a Post-doctorate at the Inst D'astrophysique de Paris in 1993 and a Post doctorate at the European Southern Observatory in 1994-1995. She was a visiting professor at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München in 1998 and in 2004 and at the University of Florida in 2018 . She became a faculty member at the Astronomy department of the University of Sao Paulo in 1995. Currently she is a full professor of Universidade de São Paulo since 2009. She was a member of the science coordination group of FAPESP, Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo from 2004 to 2017 and she has recently (2020) joined FAPESP staff again..She was elected a member of the Academy of Sciences of the State of São Paulo and of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences, both in December 2019. She is the co-PI of the Giant Magellan Telescope grant to fund the participation of institutions from the state of São Paulo in this project and she is the PI of the Southern Photometric Local Universe Survey project, to image a large area of the Southern sky. She has experience in the area of Extragalactic Astronomy, with focus on the study of galaxy properties as a function of the environment.
