She was awarded the 2007 bronze Medal of the CNRS.She was awarded the 2019 Silver Medal of the CNRS. Claire Rougeulle is a research Director at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and a group leader at the Centre for Epigenetics and Cell Fate, Paris Diderot University, Paris. She received a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Genetics from the University Pierre et Marie Curie, France in 1996. After a 2 year post-doctoral fellowship with Dr. Lalande at the Children’s hospital in Boston, MA, where she studied imprinted gene expression in Angelman syndrome, she was appointed as a permanent scientist by the CNRS. Following a one year collaboration in Pr. Winston’s laboratory, Harvard Medical School, she returned to the Pasteur Institute in Paris in 1999, to develop research projects on noncoding RNAs and chromatin modifications in the context of X chromosome inactivation. In 2008, she was awarded an ERC starting grant and an ATIPE-Avenir funding. She was one of the founding members of the Centre for Epigenetics and Cell Fate, created in 2009. Her work contributed to deciphering the long noncoding RNA circuitry controlling X-inactivation in mouse and human. Her group studies the significance of rapidly evolving long noncoding RNA in the plasticity of epigenetic regulations during evolution, focusing on the paradigmatic X-inactivation process and other biological events. Professor Rougeulle was awarded the CNRS Bronze Medal in 2007 and the JP Lecocq Prize of the French Academie of Science in 2016. She was elected EMBO member in 2016.
