Chiharu Tokoro (Member, IEEE) was born in Kobe, Japan, in 1975. She received the B.E. degree in resources engineering from Waseda University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1998, and the M.E. and Ph.D. degrees in geosystem engineering from The University of Tokyo, Tokyo, in 2000 and 2003, respectively.
From 2004 to 2007, she was an Assistant Professor with the Resources and Environmental Engineering Department, Waseda University. She was a Lecturer until 2007, an Associate Professor until 2009, and a Professor until 2015 with the Resource and Environmental Engineering Department, Waseda University. From 2016 to 2021, she was a Project Professor with the Institute of Industrial Science, The University of Tokyo. Since 2015, she has been a Professor with the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University. Since 2021, she has also been a Professor with Systems Innovation, The University of Tokyo. She has authored ten books, more than 105 articles, and more than 16 inventions. Her research interests are mineral processing, chemical engineering, and powder processing for waste treatment and recycling, including pulsed charged disintegration.
