Foulds Charles E

Dr. Charles E. Foulds is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology and Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). He received a Ph.D. in Chemistry from the University of Oregon working in the laboratory of Dr. Diane K. Hawley and did postdoctoral training in the Department of Oncological Sciences at the Huntsman Cancer Institute at the University of Utah with Dr. Barbara J. Graves and at BCM with Dr. Bert W. O’Malley before ultimately becoming an Assistant Professor. Dr. Foulds spent his training period consumed with the field of RNA polymerase II transcription- from the basal transcription factors to DNA-binding activator proteins to coregulator proteins. In graduate school, he cloned the human TATA binding protein (TBP) gene promoter and demonstrated its regulation by the ETS family of transcription factors. He then studied the intersection of signal transduction and transcription factor activity (MAPK-mediated phosphorylation of Ets-1/Ets-2 recruiting CBP/p300 coregulators) as a postdoc in Utah. His current research interest involves proteomics of DNA-bound nuclear receptor-coregulator complexes, including wild-type and mutant estrogen receptors (ER).
