My main focus has been to characterize the natural photosensitive, generalized epilepsy of the baboon. I have characterized electroclinical phenotypes in a large pedigree with scalp EEG studies. My group developed neuroimaging (functional PET and MRI) and video-EEG platforms to evaluate mechanisms underlying photosensitivity and IGE. My long term goal is the development of medical and surgical (neurostimulation) therapies for medically refractory IGE in humans.
