Research by Prof. Sirtori has provided major contributions to the understanding of the mechanisms of soya protein, the major hypocholesterolaemic nutraceutical, as well as the clinical impact of metformin in the treatment of diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Prof. Sirtori also described the first mutant of human apolipoproteins, apo A-I Milano, and led one of the three groups identifying the first cytochrome P-450 polymorphism CYP2D6.
