个人简介
Graduated in Biology and Environmental Sciences in Marseille, I specialized in Plant Ecology with a Master degree of the University Paris XI. Owing to valuable results, I earned a PhD scholarship from the French Ministry of Research to study the effect of climate on soil decomposition processes, for which I was graduated in Plant Ecology from the University of Paris XI in 2000.
I was subsequently recruited at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (ISA, Lisbon) with a Marie-Curie post-doctoral fellowship for the study of Mediterranean ecosystems using stable isotopes. Pioneer in Portugal in the use of isotope tools in ecohydrology, my following proposals were successfully approved with 2 consecutive post-doctoral grants (FCT, 2002-2008). A SIBAE award granted me with a solid training on mass spectrometry in the Paul Scherrer Institute (Switzerland). With this background, I built an isotopic cryodistillation facility in ISA, still under use today.
As a post-doctoral fellow, I was co-leader and PI of the European MIND project, on the effects of precipitation changes on Mediterranean ecosystems. I gained a high sense of leadership, being responsible for the coordination of a complex field experimental design and a large interdisciplinary network involving several teams and students. Alongside, I was involved in numerous national and European projects in which I developed skills in Ecohydrology, Plant physiology and Forestry. Moreover, data processing sharpened my statistical know-how, which I enjoyed teaching in Biostatistics courses.
Since 2009, I am an independent researcher in the Geophysical Centre of Lisbon University in IDL. My work in the Earth Surface Processes group is mainly devoted to the assessment of key hydrological drivers of the plant-soil-atmosphere continuum controlling responses of Mediterranean woody species to climate changes. The contribution of groundwater on Mediterranean forest’s water balance particularly captured my interest, especially at the regional scale using GIS and remote-sensing and from the present to the future. My project PIEZAGRO [9], on the effect of the evolution of the piezometric level on the agroforestry sector in southern Portugal was approved for funding (170.000€) with an outstanding 90% score. Since May 2016, I lead my own team as PI of the latter. My work and orientation led to diverse seminars at high levels events. As a matter of fact, I was recently invited to give a seminar for Forestry stakeholders at the UNAC workshop on Management Adaptations of Forests to Climate Changes in March 2018.
My research activity reached a significant international recognition as a reviewer for renowned international Journals (Climate Research, J Plant Ecology, J Plant Research, Tree physiology, J Hydrology) and as an international I&D project reviewer for the DFG German Research Foundation. Considering a 13.5-yr period following the completion of my PhD degree, my research activity accounts for 32 invited lectures (5 Outreaches) and 23 communications in congresses (13 in international events). More importantly, my contributions generated the publication of 25 articles in Q1 international ISI Journals and 4 refereed book chapters. My articles were cited 1241 times so far (700 since 2013), featuring a h-index of 17 or 18 according to ResearchGate and Google Academics, respectively.
