Carmen Del Aguila

Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy from the Complutense University of Madrid (UCM) in 1981, specializing in Biochemistry and Ecology. Doctorate in Pharmacy from UCM in 1985. Diploma in Clinical Analysis from the School of Professional Development at UCM in 1983. Specialization in Clinical Analysis from the Ministry of Education and Science in 1989. Master's degree in Biotechnology from the "Severo Ochoa" Molecular Biology Center at the Autonomous University of Madrid in 1995. In 1984, she began her professional career in pharmaceutical industry research, leading the section on human-origin monoclonal antibodies at the Kabi Institute of Biotechnology until April 1992. In 1986, she began combining this activity with teaching at San Pablo-CEU University College, joining San Pablo CEU University (USP-CEU) in 1994 as an associate professor of Parasitology (Para). Since then, she has been responsible for the Parasitology Area at USP-CEU and, between 2005 and March 2007, also for the Immunology Area. She was promoted to associate professor of Parasitology in 1998 and finally to full professor of Parasitology at USP-CEU in 2008, obtaining accreditation from ANECA in 2013 for University Professor and in 2014 for Full Professor, currently continuing this activity. She was awarded a NATO scholarship in 1995 for a research internship at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, specializing in opportunistic parasites. She has since been the Principal Investigator (PI) of the human parasitology research group at USP-CEU. She has obtained competitive projects: 4 Health Research projects from the Carlos III Institute of Health (PI06/1593, PI09/01115, PI12/02725, and PI17/01670), being PI in all of them, FEDER (04/04/SA/0003), National Plan (API06-09), as well as private entities. She has published over 90 articles in international journals, most of them of high impact, and directed 15 doctoral theses. She has participated in 4 approved patents, one of which was transferred to Bioftalmic Applied Research in 2011. She has 4 six-year research periods recognized by the National Evaluating Commission for Research Activity (CNEAI). She was awarded the CEU Angel Herrera Prize for the best research work in the Experimental Sciences Area in January 2020. She has taught university courses in undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Pharmacy, Medicine, Dentistry, Food Science, and Technology, as well as Diplomas in Human Nutrition and Dietetics and Podiatry, as well as doctoral and master's courses. She has 3 five-year teaching periods. Regarding Educational Management and Administration, she was Head of the Parasitology Section (1999-2004), Secretary of the Department of Biology of the Faculty of Experimental Sciences and Health (1998-1999), Director of the Department of Biology at USP-CEU (1999-2001), Director of the Department of Cellular Biology, Biochemistry, and Molecular Biology at USP-CEU (2001-2003), and Director of the Animal Biology and Parasitology Section from October 2004 to April 2009. She is currently responsible for the Parasitology Area at USPCEU. She was appointed Corresponding Academician-elect of the Royal National Academy of Pharmacy on April 28, 2022.
