While alterations within the microbiota-gut-brain axis in PD have been widely recognized, virtually nothing is known on the mechanisms of how dietary interventions could modulate peripheral and central inflammation in PD. My current doctoral research in the Food Science and Human Nutrition Department investigates the influence of a Mediterranean diet on constipation symptoms, microbial communities, and markers of intestinal inflammation in people with PD.
