Carl C. Trettin

Carl Trettin received the B.S. degree in forest hydrology and M.S. degree in forest soils from Michigan Technological University, Houghton, MI, USA, in 1976 and 1980, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in forest soils from North Carolina State University in 1992. He was a Research Scientist with Michigan Technological University, from 1978 to 1988, and with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN, USA, from 1991 to 1994. Since 1994, he has been a Research Scientist and a Team Leader with the USDA Forest Service, Southern Research Station, Asheville, NC, USA. His work in African mangroves considers the quantification of carbon stocks in biomass and soils, which led to collaborations for the application of remote sensing data for assessing these remote but important ecosystems. His research focuses on carbon biogeochemistry in forested wetlands ranging from the tropics to the boreal zone.
