Dr Boladale Mapayi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine, a master’s degree and a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. At present, she is an Associate Professor and consultant psychiatrist at OAU and OAU Teaching Hospitals Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife. She obtained a West African College of Physicians Fellowship in Psychiatry following her residency training at the OAUTHC, Ile-Ife. She has specialized training in REBT (Albert Ellis Institute). She is an associate Lecturer at the Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health, UCH, Ibadan and the Center for Gender and Development Studies, Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti. She is also an examiner for the West African College of Physicians.
Dr Mapayi has participated in the development and reviews of multiple national and international technical reports. The 2011 clinical protocol for the health and development of adolescent and young people (AYP) in Nigeria and the National training manual for the health and development of AYP in Nigeria (Federal Ministry of Health); the 2013 PEPFAR Health Professional Fellowship Program Curriculum (Obafemi Awolowo University and MSH); the 2021 National adaptation of the WHO Clinical Handbook for responding to women who have experienced sexual violence (WHO) and the 2021 review of the national HIV prevention standard documents MPPI, National Prevention Plan and the National Strategy for Adolescents (NACA).
She has worked on AYP programs. She has coordinated and facilitated several training programs on AYPs. She has worked within several teams to develop curricular and train others on implementation of regional and National policy documents. She has participated in several agenda‐setting initiatives concerning gender, sexual minorities, sexual violence, AYP.
Her research interests are in the areas of women's and Adolescent mental health, sexuality and gender-based violence and she has over 40 publications in peer reviewed journals.
Dr Boladale Mapayi has won several scholarships, grants, awards and laurels. These include but are not limited to: The Professor T Adeoye Lambo Prize for the student with the best performance in neuropsychiatry in the final MBChB degree examination and The Olaningbe Makanjuola memorial prize for the best student in medicine in part VI MBChB degree examination (2001).
IBRO Travel award (2010), the National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) Travel award (2013) and the Donald J. Cohen Travel Fellowship (DJCTF) award (2014). Research grants from the Consortium for Advanced Research Training in Africa (CARTA) PhD Fellowship (2014- 2017), the African Women Development Fund (AWDF) grant (2014), as Co PI, the Global Effort on COVID-19 (GECO) Health Research (2020 – 2021) and as PI, NIH Global Cancer Stigma Research Sub Award Empathic communication skills training to reduce lung cancer stigma in Nigeria (2021).
She has served in several leadership positions, including but not limited to: Vice Dean, Faculty of Clinical Sciences, OAU (2016/2017 session). Director of Programs to the Women against Rape Sexual Harassment and Exploitation (WARSHE) group, a civil society that provides services to abused girls and women domiciled in Ile-Ife (2013-2015). Deputy Chair to the Sexual Violence Action Group (SVAG), situated in her institution (2015 till date). Chair, College of Health Sciences Alumni Relations Office (2021 till date). President of the Medical Women Association of Nigeria, Osun State chapter (2015-2017).
She is a volunteer counsellor and facilitator to the Women against Rape Sexual Harassment and Exploitation (WARSHE) group, a civil society that provides services to abused girls and women domiciled in Ile-Ife. She is a volunteer facilitator for the Foundation for the care and resettlement of the mentally ill (CAREMI), an organization that supports people living with mental illness. She is an experienced facilitator, an advocate for gender equity, women empowerment and a right based approach to health interventions.
