Beatriz Fernandez Munoz

Beatriz Fernández Muñoz, PhD. PhD in Cell Biology and Genetics. During my pre-doctoral stage, I joined the laboratory of Dr. Miguel Quintanilla, at the Instituto de Investigaciones Biomédicas “Alberto Sols” in Madrid (UAM-CSIC), doing stays at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany). I developed my doctoral thesis in the field of oncology, acquiring extensive experience in cell culture and different techniques of cell and molecular biology. I later became an assistant professor at the Centro de Biología Molecular “Severo Ochoa” (UAM-CSIC). I did a post-doctoral stay in the laboratory of Dr. José B. Cibelli at Michigan State University (MSU) where I was trained in the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSC) and their differentiation into neural stem cells (NSC). Since 2011, I work as the Head of Production and Pre-clinical development of the clean room of the Unidad de Producción y Reprogramación Celular (UPRC) coordinated by the Andalusian Network for the design and translation of Advanced Therapies (RAdytTA), where I supervises the production of cell-based drugs for clinical use and several pre-clinical projects. During my time at the UPRC I have specialized in the generation of iPSC cells and their differentiation into NSC and have acquired knowledge about the necessary requirements for the development of new advanced therapies, leading the adaptation and production under GMP standards of various products based on cells. In addition, since 2016, in collaboration with neurosurgeons from the Virgen del Rocío Hospital, I am focus on the development of new advanced therapies for the treatment of intraventricular hemorrhage. My emerging research career is supported by my authorship in 19 articles published in international journals indexed in JCR, 4 patents, 1 book chapter, 27 national and international communications, being a speaker on 3 occasions and participation in 21 research projects and contracts with companies being PI on two of them. In addition, I have received several scientific awards and participate as a teacher in 3 Master's programs specialized in development of new advanced therapies medicinal products.
