Prof. Dr. Baki Akgül studied biology at the University of Cologne from 1994 to 1997. After completing his PhD in genetics at the Institute of Virology, he went to the Institute of Cell and Molecular Sciences in London in 2003 with a scholarship from the German Cancer Aid. He then returned to the Institute of Virology in Cologne and was appointed Assistant Professor for "Viral Skin Carcinogenesis" in 2010. Since September 2017, Baki Akgül holds the position of W2 professor at the Institute of Virology at the University of Cologne.
