Bruce Veidt

Bruce Veidt received the B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB, Canada, in 1981, 1984, and 1995, respectively. He has been involved in radio astronomy instrumentation development and research for most of his career, beginning with the development of the analog front-end components of a dual-frequency observing system for the Synthesis Telescope, Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO), Penticton, BC, Canada. He then joined the Caltech Submillimeter Observatory, Pasadena, CA, USA, where he helped develop acoustooptical spectrometers and cryogenic low-noise amplifiers for a 10-m submillimeter-wavelength radio telescope located near the summit of Mauna Kea, Hawaii. He applied digital signal processing techniques for biomedical research with the University of Calgary, Calgary, AB, Canada. After completing the Ph.D. research program involving the fabrication and circuit design of receivers using superconducting tunnel junctions, he returned to DRAO where he has worked on the development of phased-array feeds and other advanced receiving systems for future radio telescopes. Dr. Veidt is a Professional Engineer in the province of British Columbia.
