Addressing aspects of the biology of HPV in the process of interaction with host cells, aiming to search for alternative routes of infection, began in 2003. It was necessary to obtain virus-like particles (VLPs) for host cell interaction assays. We resorted to biotechnological research applied to the production of VLP in our laboratory, containing only the genes of interest. The platform to produce HPV16 L1/L2 VLPs in the laboratory, allowed us to develop VLP vaccines.
