Arminda Alves

I am Full Professor at the Chemical Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of Porto (FEUP), Director of the Research Center LEPABE - laboratory for Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy, from Oct. 2013 and Director of the Doctoral Program of Environmental Engineering since 2020. I was Director of the Chemical Engineering Department (FEUP) from 2010 to 2018. My research has been directed to the development analytical methods and monitoring trace organic compounds which affect the human health and safety of food products and natural resources, using chromatographic techniques of high resolution. At present, the research strategy includes the development of new analytical methods applied to emerging areas, understanding the transport phenomena and reaction associated with emerging pollutants, their relationship with toxicity and exposure risk assessment, the development of alternative processes for degradation or removal of contaminated environmental matrices, and ultimately, the identification of the degradation products. Among emergent compounds, highlight the phytochemicals, the personal care products and industrial chemicals of the new generation, including nanoparticles / microcapsules.
