Arkiev D'Souza

Arkiev is a biomedical engineer who studies muscles using novel techniques. In particular, he is investigating a condition called muscle contracture, which is associated with the stiffening of muscles. This condition affects people who have had a stroke as well as children with cerebral palsy. He and his team led by Prof Rob Herbert use recently developed algorithms to obtain quantitative measurements of muscle architecture by combining information from anatomical MRI and diffusion tensor imaging scans. Arkiev has also been involved in validating these tools as well as other biomedical devices used to assess muscle contracture.
