Aristomenis P. Karageorgis

Aristomenis P. Karageorgis (AK; male) obtained his Diploma in Geology at the Athens Univ., and earned his PhD in Oceanography, at the Thessaloniki Univ. He was a post-doc fellow at the Ecole des Mines de Paris, Sophia-Antipolis, France. His present position is Research Director at the HCMR/Institute of Oceanography. His main research activities are in particle dynamics, marine optics, sedimentology, geochemistry, submarine groundwater discharges. He has more than 25 years of research experience through participation in over 60 national / international research programs, studies focused on sedimentology, geochemistry and marine optics (MIPAMEHR, CINCS, METROMED, MATER, KEYCOP, EUROCAT, ADIOS, INTERPOL, IASON, HERMES, SESAME-IP, EUROFLEETS, EUROFLEETS2, PERSEUS). He is a sea-going oceanographer and has spent more than 4 years at sea through participation in more than 150 oceanographic expeditions. He is author of 69 publications in peer-reviewed journals (1200 citations, h-index 22) and of more than 100 presentations in international conferences. He supervised many undergraduate diploma thesis, Ph.D. and Post-Doc students. He is the National Focal Point of Greece in the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) in UNESCO since 2010. He is the Director of the Institute of Oceanography-HCMR since December 2018.
