Professional expertise and research interest in: Bioactive compounds determination (phenolic compounds profile, carotenoids, volatile compounds profile, trichloroanisoles, ethylphenols, methoxypirazines, fungicides, micotoxins) using different analytical strategies (HPLC-UV, HPLC-DAD, HPLC-FLD, LC-QTOF-MS/MS, UHPLC-QQQ, GC-MS/MS, GC-QTOF-MS/MS, GC-FID). Development, application and validation of novel sample preparation approaches: SPE, liquid-liquid microextractions, QuEChERS, SPME, counter current chromatography). Development and validation of High Performance Liquid Chromatography methods: HPLC-UV, DAD and FLD for phenolic compounds, carotenoids, ethylphenols, tenuazonic acid (mycotoxin), LC-QTOF and QTOF-MS/MS for fungicides, GC-MS and QTOF-MS/MS for volatile compounds (methoxypirazines and VOCs). All the methodologies developed and applied in a variety of food and plants derived products for analytes derived from plants or external compounds used to control pests or produced by microorganism.
With 15 years of experience in research and development in different scientific-academic scopes, I was the leader researcher in different projects focused on the chemical analysis and recovery of bioactive compounds and phytonutrients from different natural sources. The main topics are outlined here:
• Profiling of phenolic compounds in different food products and evaluation of the profiles modifications according to the effect of different environmental and/or cultivation conditions.
• Recovery of bioactive compounds from food industry by-products and their application as food additives with health benefits.
• Biological activity of secondary metabolites of medicinal plants, especially anticancer, antioxidant, antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral activity
• Chemical and sensory characterization of wines from different varieties and production origins of Argentina with focus on the discrimination of geographical indications.
• Phytochemical analysis of medicinal and aromatic plants.
• Phytochemistry, i.e. isolation and identification of secondary metabolites from food and aromatic plants.
• Sustainable processing and recovery of bioactive compounds from sustainable sources like food industry by-products.
