Annette DeVito Dabbs

Annette J. De Vito Dabbs received the Ph.D. degree and is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Acute and Tertiary Care in the School of Nursing at the University of Pittsburgh. She holds secondary appointments in the Clinical and Translational Science Institute and Department of Bioethics and Health Law. Her contributions to the profession reflect the duality of her career as an Advanced Practice Professional Nurse and academic researcher. She is building nursing knowledge and transforming practice by promoting self-care for chronic illness populations, particularly transplant recipients. Her interdisciplinary research (funded without interruption by the NIH and the NINR since 1999) focuses on the development of interactive health technologies that support the remote exchange of health information between patients and clinicians to promote patient-clinician collaboration and shared clinical management of chronic illness. Her body of work is reflected in over 75 peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and conference proceedings. She holds leadership positions in several professional organizations including the International Society of Heart and Lung Transplantation and the American Academy of Nursing. She has made an impact nationally and internationally as a leader involved in setting priorities for nursing practice, education, policy, and research.
