Annan Zhou was born in December 1982. His major research area is Geomechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, specifically including (1) Unsaturated soil mechanics, (2) Thermo-hydro-mechanical coupled behaviour of soils subjected to global climate change, (3) Advanced soil behaviour testing and viscous-elastoplastic constitutive modelling, (4) Robust and fast numerical methods for Geotechnical Engineering, and (5) risk assessment/management for civil geotechnical infrastructure in the context of global climate change. He has authored/co-authored more than 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals and conference proceedings. The quality of his publications has been recognised by being awarded several international awards like the ISSMGE ECR International Best Paper Award (2015) and the CGJ Editor’s Choice (2016).
As a Chief Investigator, Associate Professor Annan Zhou has secured several competitive research grants over 2 million dollars. In addition to Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, he also serves as an editorial board member for Canadian Geotechnical Journal (NRC) since 2015.
