Career Trajectory
Bio
Dr. Ryan’s health services research focuses on pay-for-performance and public quality reporting, disparities, and healthcare policy analysis, including the evaluation of value-based purchasing programs implemented for hospitals, physicians, and Medicare Advantage plans. His main goal is to improve the quality of U.S. healthcare by identifying the incentive systems and practices that reduce quality of care, and by identifying new models of quality improvement. Other research seeks to understand the best ways to profile healthcare providers' outcome performance, and to evaluate the properties of difference-in-difference estimators. As director of IHPI’s Data & Methods Hub, Dr. Ryan is also a member of IHPI’s Institute Leadership Team (ILT).
