Andrea Garatti

Surgical Activity Dr. Garatti has participated as an assistant in more than 5000 cardiac surgical procedures covering the entire spectrum of adult acquired heart disease, including cardiac transplants, LVAD implantation and emergencies. In particular, he has personally prepared more than 400 reoperative cardiac surgery, including coronary, valvular and aortic pathology redux. Dr. Garatti has performed nearly 500 adult cardiac surgeries as first operator, covering the entire spectrum of acquired pathology, including reintervention and urgencies/emergencies. As surgical head of the adult ECMO project at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, he personally performed about 80 veno-arterial ECMO implantations mainly for cardiogenic shock or ECPR, both by surgical isolation and percutaneous technique, using femoral, axillary and transapical cannulations. In the last year has also implemented the use of short-term centrifugal systems for LVAD and RVAD configurations, and has started the use of Impella system, [both CP and 5.0, as isolated support and as unloading during ECMO (ECPELLA)] and the Livanova Protek-Duo RVAD. Transcatheter Activity Dr. Garatti has started an active collaboration with the Hemodynamics service since 2010. He is an active member of the Heart Team at IRCCS Policlinico San Donato, and the only hybrid-trained surgeon in the Operative Unit. He had specific training on both TAVI and Mitraclip. He completed in 2018 the UZH Certificate of Advances Studies in Aortic Valve Structural Intervention, at the University of Zurich, directed by Prof. Maisano. He recently started his experience with Cardioband and TMVR systems, personally performing the first Italian Tendyne implants. He performed as first or second operator about 120 trans-catheter procedures with the main TAVI devices (Medtronic Evolut, Portico, Accurate Neo, Edwards Sapien) and Mitraclip (NTR and XTR). He is currently proctor for Tendyne TMVR system. Research Activity Dr. Garatti is the author of 71 publications indexed in international journals (Official H index: 18.0, Source: Scopus; Scopus Author Id: 6602519321; ORCID ID: 0000-0002-6744-1850; RESEARCH ID: K-3105-2016). He has participated as a Speaker or Invited Speaker in 50 national and international congresses. Dr. Garatti is Principal Investigator (PI) or co-PI of several spontaneous and sponsored international and national multicenter studies. He is member of the International Scientific Board of "The Journal of Cardiovascular Medicine", ISSN:1558-2027, LIPPINCOTT WILLIAMS & WILKINS. He is member of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery (SICCH) since 2002 and member of the Scientific Committee of the Italian Society of Cardiac Surgery (SICCH) Gruppo Italiano di Ricerca Outcome in Cardiac Surgery (GIROC) as statistician since 01-01-2016. Teaching Activity Dr. Garatti is "cultore della materia" in cardiac surgery and he has been teaching and examining for the course D562Z- TRANSLATIONAL CARDIOVASCULAR MEDICINE AND SURGERY at IMS - International Medical School of the University of Milan (course holder Prof. Alessandro Parolari). He has been co-rapporteur of 10 undergraduate and specialty theses since the academic year 2015-2016.
