During my doctoral thesis (2015-2020) I presented the model nematode Caenorhabditis elegans at the Clinical Biochemistry and Immunology Research Center. Through my thesis data, I showed how natural compounds present in tomato fruits could induce resistance to heat stress in the model, involving transcription factors that had not been related to heat stress before. I also developed and optimized a fast, cheap and easy colorimetric method for the quantification and estimation of additional nutraceutical properties in natural extracts. Later (2020) working on my first postdoc in Argentina, I combined my experience working with the C. elegans model with the analytical tools I had acquired in a short-term fellowship in the US studying metabolic analysis methods, to show the importance of intestinal microbial flora in the incorporation of tomato nutraceutical compounds. In my second postdoctoral experience, with Dr. Melendez in the USA (2020-2022), I studied how autophagy and extracellular matrix enzymes influence specific regulators in the field of aging through the control and maintenance of germ cell proliferation in C. elegans. After this training I acquired skills in metabolomics, analytical chemistry, food science, genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, bioinformatics and data analysis tools, confocal microscopy, immunofluorescence and the understanding of the mechanisms involved in the control of the cell cycle, aging and autophagy.
On the other hand, since 2014 and until the end of my second postdoc, I have worked as a university professor (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba, Arg and Queens College, USA) teaching Food Science and Microbiology courses, and I participated as a mentor to several students in their final degree projects.
Currently, as a Marie-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow (2022-present), I continue to work with C. elegans, but currently my focus is Huntington's disease and other neurodegenerative disorders. I continue to actively train to be able to handle rodent samples, while I participate in clinical trials for the analysis of samples from patients with Huntington's disease. This path traveled has allowed me to train as a researcher in a very competitive, challenging and enriching environment. Taking professional training courses keeps me updated and attending international conferences and the consequent presentation of results have allowed me to improve my communication tools.
