My research interest is on development of advanced building materials, focused on:
High-performance cement and concrete composites and particularly textile reinforced concrete (TRC) including advanced processing, bonding, durability and micro and nano structure of those materials. The TRC development aims at two levels: (i) replacing the conventional steel reinforced concrete by carbon fabrics, (ii) strengthening and retrofitting of concrete elements. The use of TRC potentially reduces concrete element self-weight, energy consumption, and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, and it can be used to produce structures with modular and complex shapes while eliminating the risk of corrosion.
