个人简介
My research has focused on four lines of work: Adaptive Comfort, Energy Retrofitting, Energy Efficiency (EE), and Energy Poverty (EP). All these are interlinked to develop interaction between human beings and the environment via architecture and climate adaptation. In this sense, I have analysed and published on Adaptive Comfort at an international level, even creating a new adaptive model for Chile. I have also studied the potential of adaptive strategies in several parts of the world, as well as the impact of applying future climate change scenarios. In this sense, the concern for access to clean and affordable energy has been a constant during my research career, creating 2 new EP indicators: Fuel Poverty Potential Risk Index (FPPRI), and Poverty Adaptive Degree Hourly Index (PADHI).
I have become a lead researcher in competitive projects and contracts for public entities in these research areas, where I have led three domestic projects, with an accumulated budget of €707,695, along with three internal projects. I have 6 authorships associated with the results of the INNOVA CHILE 15BP-45346 project, and two patent applications from the FONDEF ID17|10162 project. I have also taken part in 6 domestic projects in Chile, 1 in Spain, and 3 internal ones.
To date, I have published more than 64 research projects (scientific articles, books, and book chapters), 30 of which are in JCR. My index is H=14 and I have been cited 479 times in recent years. I have presented more than 15 papers, given 6 conferences as a guest speaker, and been part of 5 scientific committees at international congresses.
I have also worked intensively in technology transfer and development, generating methodologies and tools to quantify the impact of energy efficiency measures on buildings, as well as the economic investment, taking part in 5 research contracts, 4 as lead researcher. It is worth highlighting the development of the first parametric databank integrating eco-efficiency indicators (costs and sustainability) for construction projects in Chile, through the INNOVA CHILE 15BP-45346 (with 6 authorships); the development of the Energy Efficiency and Social Cost in Building Projects (ECSE) software, currently used by the Social Investment Assessment Division of the Chilean Social Development Ministry, and presented as an example of Best Practices in COP 26 by the Head of the Social Investment Assessment Division; the development during 2020 of Stage 1 for the future rating of buildings in Chile, for the Chilean Construction Institute together with the Chilean Ministries of Energy, Public Works, and Housing and Urbanism. As a result, The World Bank has requested a “Technical Study to Develop Tools to Evaluate Energy Alternatives in Public Infrastructure Investment Projects in Peru” (ongoing contract).
In the teaching field, I have taught courses related to energy efficiency in undergraduate, master’s, and Ph.D. programs in Chile and Spain, teaching a total of 2,336 hours (1,677 – undergraduate; 659 – postgraduate). I have tutored 26 undergraduate and 5 master’s Degree theses. Today, 3 Ph.D. and 1 Postdoctoral student are working in the lines of work I have generated over the years. Since 2021, I am the Director of the Sustainable Habitat and Energy Efficiency Masters at UBB, accredited by the Chilean National Accreditation Commission, and am part of the staff of the Ph. D. in Architecture and Urbanism at the same university. I have also led and taken part in EE training programs for different Chilean Government entities.
Currently, I lead UBB’s Environmental Comfort and Energy Poverty Research Group, which I set up in 2019, and the financed Ibero-American Environmental Wellbeing and Energy Poverty Network (RIPEBA), awarded in the CYTED 2021 call, where 11 research groups with 37 researchers from 8 countries (Chile, Spain, Costa Rica, Mexico, Colombia, Portugal, Uruguay, and Argentina) take part. I am also a member of the University of Seville’s TEP198 Research Group, the Chilean Energy Poverty Network, and the Chilean Interdisciplinary Centre for Sustainable Construction and Productivity. I did predoctoral fellowships in different centres over more than 26 months, which has allowed, to a great extent, the creation of the RIPEBA Network.
Finally, I must mention that I am a permanent evaluator of the National Research and Development Agency (ANID), and an evaluator of the Culture Funds of the Chilean Ministry of Culture, the Arts, and Heritage. I have also been an evaluator of the ANID Ph.D. and Master’s Degrees grants, and am a member of the Council of Research and Postgraduate Studies of the UBB’s Postgraduate and Research Vice-Rectorate.
