My area of interest is biological oceanography with emphasis on biogeochemistry and microbial ecology. My scientific expertise has focused on the study of energy transformations that occur in environments deficients in oxygen (water column and sediments) through the cycle of nitrogen, carbon and sulfur, the role that biological communities play in these transformations, and how the physical tensor (mainly those associated to Climate Change), modulate it. Likewise, in recent years I have dedicated to understand causes and consequences of eutrophication processes in freshwater and marine coastal systems, and how changes in the catchments land-uses modulate the coatal marine functioning.
