Alejandro Beceiro

Dr. Alejandro Beceiro focuses his research on the research line entitled "New Antimicrobial or Antivirulent Strategies against Multiresistant Pathogens", which focuses on the study of bacterial multiresistance to antibiotics, and especially on the development of alternatives to conventional antibiotics for clinical use. Dr. Beceiro started in 2019 a Miguel Servet II contract at Instituto de Salud Carlos III, after finishing a period as researcher Juan de la Cierva (2009-2012) and Miguel Servet I (2013-2018). He has extensive experience in the field of cellular and molecular biology, microbiology, genomics and proteomics as well as in the development of experimental infection models, for application in the study of antimicrobial resistance, identification of bacterial therapeutic targets and development and evaluation of new antimicrobial compounds. He currently directs two projects at the Carlos III Health Institute and one project at the Axencia de Innovación Galega. He has 72 publications to date (38 in last 5 years), the great majority in first decile or first quartile journals, being "author for correspondence" or last author in more than half of them since he obtained the Miguel Servet contract (2014). It has an H index of 31, and 24 in the last 5 years. He has supervised 7 Master's degree works, has directed or is directing 6 doctoral theses. He has developed 2 patents and has presented more than 100 posters to conferences. He has the b and c category in Training for Experimenters in Laboratory Animal Sciences. He has been a teacher for several years in the University Master in Health Research Assistance, at the University of A Coruña. He has been distinguished with six awards in the last 12 years for the best scientific work presented at the annual congress of the SEIMC. He is part of the Executive Committee, Scientific Committee and Training Sub- Committee of the Spanish Network of Research on Infectious Pathologies (REIPI), funded by the ISCIII.
