Career Trajectory
Bio
Ajitkumar P. Mulavara received his B.E. from University of Bombay, India, in 1990 and his M.S. from the University of Akron, Ohio, in 1993, both in biomedical engineering. He joined Wyle Laboratories (formerly Krug Life Sciences) in 1995, where he worked on investigating the effects of microgravity on human posture and locomotion control. He continued with his doctoral research on the development of new metrics to understand the biomechanics of head-trunk coordination during locomotion and received his Ph.D. from the University of Akron in 1998. He is currently a senior research scientist in the Neuroscience Motion Laboratory at NASA's Johnson Space Center and an assistant professor at the National Space Biomedical Research Institute, Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, Texas. His research interests are in the areas of adaptive plasticity, control and rehabilitation of human movement, and development of countermeasures to mitigate the effects of microgravity on human physiological function.
