Bio
Adrienne Tan is a clinician-educator in the Department of Psychiatry, University of Toronto. Clinically, she practices at Toronto General Hospital and is a board-certified consultation-liaison psychiatrist who completed a fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She is a Fellow of the Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine and is a previous William Webb Fellow. Clinical areas of expertise include management of psychiatric sequelae related to chronic respiratory disorders, psychiatric care of lung transplant patients, and management of patients and caregivers post critical illness. Dr. Tan is also a psychoanalytically trained psychotherapist and has held leadership roles in postgraduate education in psychotherapy at the local hospital and university levels. She currently leads psychodynamic psychotherapy education at the University Health Network. Educationally she is also the head of the Psychosomatic Medicine Fellowship Program at the University Health Network and is the Co-Lead of the Medical Psychiatry Alliance (MPA) Fellowship Program. In terms of undergraduate medical education, Dr. Tan is the curriculum co-lead for a pre-clerkship elective in therapeutic communication called MEET (Making Every Encounter Therapeutic) which was adapted in 2015 to be part of undergraduate medical education initiatives offered through the MPA.
