Adolfo Cobo (M'05) received the Ph.D. degree in telecommunication engineering from the University of Cantabria, Santander, Spain, in 1999. Since 1994, he has been an Associate Professor (Profesor Titular de Universidad) at the Photonics Engineering Group (GIF) in the Department of Electronic Technology, Industrial Automation and System Engineering, University of Cantabria, with both teaching and R&D duties. He has been enrolled in research projects funded by the European Union (3), Spanish (14), and Local Government (6). Additionally, he has participated in 16 research contracts with local and national private companies. He has coauthored 24 ISI journal papers, more than 80 papers at peer-reviewed conferences, and nine patent applications. His research interests include nondestructive testing methods based on plasma spectroscopy for industrial applications, in particular, for quality assurance of the arc and laser welding process, and intelligent processing of sensor data for structural health monitoring.
