I (Adebayo Osagie Shittu) am a microbiologist with over 20 years of experience in teaching and research. I have a Bachelor's and Master of Science degrees (Microbiology) from the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Nigeria. Moreover, I possess a Ph.D. degree in Microbiology from the University of Kwazulu-Natal (UKZN), Republic of South Africa. I am currently a Professor in the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Science, Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Nigeria, where I had previously held various positions. I have vast experience in teaching several topics in medical microbiology. My special interests include bacteria of medical importance, antibiotics, and mechanisms of bacterial resistance to antibiotics. As part of my work experience, I have supervised many postgraduate and undergraduate students. Also, I have served as a mentor to others in many institutions within and outside Nigeria. Many of my former students have continued in Microbiology, while others have pursued various fields in medicine and biomedical science. Furthermore, my research publications have contributed to knowledge on antibiotic resistance and the epidemiology of staphylococci in Africa. I am a leading investigator on the continent in this discipline of medical microbiology. As part of my administrative experience, I have served on various committees in the University and as the Head, the Department of Microbiology (August 2010-July 2011). I am currently a Georg Forster fellow (Experienced Researcher) of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation (2019-2021).
