Bio
Dr Ada Cheung is a clinician scientist and holds an Australian Government National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Fellowship and a Dame Kate Campbell Fellowship in the Department of Medicine (Austin Health), The University of Melbourne. She is also an endocrinologist in private practice and at Austin Health.
She currently leads a research group (www.transresearch.org.au) which aims to provide robust evidence to improve the health and well-being of the trans, gender diverse, and non-binary community. Her PhD thesis studied the prevention of muscle effects of androgen deprivation therapy, and was supported by the NHMRC. She continues an active role in prostate cancer research. Dr Cheung has won a large number of international and national awards for her research including being one of five recipients worldwide (and the only Australian) of a US Endocrine Society Early Investigator Award, Viertel Clinical Investigator Award and the Austin Health Inspirational Woman Award 2020.
Dr Cheung is the primary supervisor of PhD and MD research project students and is also a tutor and lecturer at the University of Melbourne Medical School. Furthermore, she is actively involved in the Endocrine Society of Australia as a Council Member, is on the Policy Committee for the Australian Professional Association for Trans Health and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism as well as Therapeutic Advances in Endocrinology and Metabolism. Committed to community service in the not-for-profit sector, Dr Cheung is a Fellow of the Institute of Community Directors Australia and has a Diploma in Business (Governance).
