个人简介
After finishing my Ph.D. in Materials Science at the University of Oviedo (Spain) in 2021, I joined the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at Imperial College London to work at the group led by Dr. Emilio Martinez-Pañeda as a postdoctoral research associate. Since August 2022 I am a Margarita Salas Postdoctoral Fellow in the same department. My research has focused on the development of a new generation of hydrogen-resistant metals for the future energy infrastructure, for which I have thoroughly studied, and continue to do so, the impact of hydrogen on the mechanical properties of metallic alloys, as well as basic hydrogen-metal interactions. My contribution to this field is reflected in more than 20 high-impact-factor journal publications, some of them derived from international collaborations, and participation in numerous International Conferences. I have recently been awarded the best PhD Thesis prize by the Spanish Group of Fracture, the Extraordinary Doctoral Prize by the University of Oviedo, and received the Best Poster award in one of the most prestigious conferences in the field (SteelyHydrogen2022). The latter is related to my recently published work “On the relative efficacy of electro-permeation and isothermal desorption approaches for measuring hydrogen diffusivity”, where I establish a high-reproducibility method to measure hydrogen diffusivity in fast-diffusion metals, a long-standing challenge. This work, which I plan to extend to other alloys in order to gain insight into hydrogen-material interactions at a lower scale, has already attracted the attention of public and private funders such as the Henry Royce Institute or UKAEA. Also research-related, I have been a teaching assistant and co-supervised more than 10 MSc students. I am currently co-supervising several undergraduates, MSc, and PhD students. Furthermore, with the aim of bridging the gap between science and people I have taken part in several outreach activities such as the European Researchers' Night and the Great Exhibition Road Festival. Despite all of the above, there is still a lot to be done in this field, which is attracting ever-increasing attention. The main barrier preventing the adoption of hydrogen as a generalized energy source is materials safety and reliability.
