Alla I. Belyaeva received the M.S. degree in physics from the Kharkov State University, Kharkov, Ukraine, in 1961, the Ph.D. degree in low-temperature physics and D.Sc. degree in solid-state physics and magnetic phenomena physics from the Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering, Kharkov, Ukraine, in 1965 and 1977, respectively. From 1961 to 1999, she was with the Institute for Low Temperature Physics and Engineering as a Postgraduate, Research and Senior Research Fellow, Head of Laboratory, Head of Department of Optical investigation at Low Temperature. In 2000, she joined the National Technical University “Kharkov Polytechnical Institute”, where she is currently a Professor with the General and Experimental Physics Department. Her current research interests include low temperature magnetism (magneto optics, IR and optical spectroscopy, magnetic phase transition, theoretical modeling of inhomogeneous magnetic states). Another area of interest is the application of magneto optics with a ferrogarnet film as a sensor to the study of high temperature superconductor materials. The understanding of the surface roughness, substrate/film interfacial roughness, multilayer systems is also a major effort (spectroscopic ellipsometry). Specific emphasis is placed on design and development of cryogenic optic, spectroscopy and magneto optic cryogenic technique. Prof. Belyaeva holds the title of Inventor of the USSR (1982).
